Swifties are upset with a new wax statue that was exhibited at Hamburg’s Panoptikum, Germany’s largest and oldest wax museum because they believe it doesn’t look anything like the pop sensation.
The figure received a flurry of criticism on the museum’s Instagram page while wearing a sequined jumpsuit that was evocative of Taylor Swift’s 2019 iHeart Radio Music Awards ensemble. Supporters expressed their displeasure through comments that ranged from lighthearted allusions to Swift’s song, “Darling, it’s a Daydream Dressed as a Nightmare,” to scathing evaluations such as “Completely unrealistic whoever did this did a terrible job.”
Even the figure’s attempt, created with only the thumbs and index fingers, to mimic Swift’s famous heart hand gesture was judged incorrect. Swift usually makes the sign with both hands.
The Swift statue, despite the criticism, is part of an elite collection at Panoptikum that also contains wax figures of Angelina Jolie, Queen Elizabeth II, and Swift’s close friend Ed Sheeran.
Weeks have passed since Swift’s two completely booked gigs during her Eras Tour stop in Hamburg. Swift will spend five nights in London to close out the European leg. After that, there will be a two-month break before the last leg of the North American tour, which will end in Vancouver on December 8, takes place.
Even though Swift’s ardent admirers may not have been satisfied with the wax figure’s likeness, it has created a lot of buzz and contributed to the pop star’s already rich history. Swift famously sang, “Haters gonna hate,” but her devoted following will surely never stop celebrating her in their unique ways.
