Vientos' Grand Slam Erupts, Mets Even NLCS with Dodgers in Game 2

In Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, the New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 thanks to a booming grand slam by Mark Vientos. In addition to tying the series at one, Vientos’ heroics gave the Mets’ hopes of qualifying for the World Series a boost.

In the sixth inning, the Dodgers loaded the bases with no outs, threatening to rally. With a vital double-play grounder, Mets reliever Phil Maton managed to escape further damage after giving up two runs.

The remainder of the door was closed by the Mets bullpen. Edwin Diaz and Ryne Stanek pitched three shutout innings together, eliminating any possibility of a Dodgers comeback. With an RBI single in the ninth, Marte added an insurance run, providing the Mets with a sizable lead. Then, with consecutive strikeouts of Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez, and Mookie Betts, Diaz completed the victory.

Now that the series is deadlocked, the NLCS will move to New York’s Citi Field. The Mets will want to dominate the series by utilizing their home-field advantage and newly discovered momentum. The addition of Vientos and Lindor to the lineup has given the Mets a realistic chance to make it to the World Series for the first time since 2015.
