In Game 4, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-107 to even the Western Conference semifinal series at 2-2. With just 3:39 remaining in the game, Aaron Gordon missed his first shot of the game, but Nikola Jokic lead the Nuggets with 35 points.
Motivated by a game-winning half-court shot in the second quarter, Denver’s Jamal Murray scored 19 points. The Timberwolves outrebounded the Nuggets 42-31, but were unable to convert chances due to the Nuggets’ balanced scoring offense and fierce defense.
Despite his outstanding performance (44 points), Anthony Edwards could not overcome the Nuggets’ well-coordinated team effort. Karl-Anthony Towns had a rough night for the Timberwolves, shooting just 5 for 18 from the field.
With a combined scoring total of 27 points from Reggie Jackson, Justin Holiday, and Christian Braun, the Nuggets bench was vital in the win. The Nuggets’ dominance of the game was cemented with a 26-4 run that lasted through the first and second quarters and was supported by contributions from the bench.
Now, the series returns to Denver for a crucial Game 5. With their momentum back, the Nuggets will try to continue their winning ways on the road, while the Timberwolves will try to find their home winning recipe again.
Michael Malone, the coach, commended the Nuggets for their tenacity and ability to carry out their strategy when playing away. He cited the team’s total defensive effort and Aaron Gordon’s unselfish play as major contributors to the victory.
The Timberwolves, who looked to have lost their momentum following a commanding victory in Game 2, will have to get back together fast. If they want to take back control of the series, they will need to fix their offensive shortcomings and figure out how to stop the Nuggets’ well-rounded offense.
