Alvarez's Monstrous Homers Spark Astros' Rout in Mexico City

The lively spirit of Mexico City provided the Houston Astros with a new beginning following a depressing losing streak.  At Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, the Astros defeated the Colorado Rockies 12–4 thanks to massive 461-foot home runs by Yordan Alvarez and a solid outing by Ronel Blanco.

Although Alvarez acknowledged that “we were struggling offensively,” he still had faith in the group. “This is the start of our turnaround,” I informed the guys.

With 15 hits, including back-to-back home runs by Alvarez and Kyle Tucker in the third inning, the Astros offense erupted. Alvarez’s long-range shot gave Houston a 3-2 lead.

Alvarez remarked, “It felt good to be back on track.” “That home run shifted the momentum, gave our guys a boost, and we kept the runs coming.”

With a dominating performance, Ronel Blanco (3-0) almost achieved his fifth consecutive great start. The altitude didn’t bother him, even though he gave up a two-run home run to Ryan McMahon early on. Blanco produced eight strikeouts while masterfully mixing his pitches, causing 21 swings and misses.

“I’ve pitched at altitude before,” Blanco stated. “That experience helped me stay comfortable out there.”

In the sixth inning, Blanco was lifted after 102 pitches and two outs. In relief, Seth Martinez held the lead in place, and in a seventh inning that was lights out, Bryan Abreu struck out the side.

Particularly happy with Blanco’s performance and the team’s clutch hitting was manager Joe Espada. In sharp contrast to their previous troubles, Houston was 6-for-12 when they had runners in scoring position. Even in his rut, José Abreu managed two hits when there were runners on base.

Espada said, “Our at-bats were excellent today.” “We used the whole field and made the most of our opportunities.”

fresh call-up home the second inning, Trey Cabbage ignited things by driving home Houston’s first run with a double.

It’s a stacked team, Cabbage declared. “Happy to contribute, and it was awesome to see the guys break out.”

The Astros felt at last at home as they were welcomed by a sea of orange-clad supporters.

“Everything came together,” Mauricio Dubón stated. Fantastic pitching, and fantastic hitting, and Yordan is killing it. We know we can play baseball like that with the Astros.”
