After quieting the home fans at American Family Field, the Mets will now play their rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies, in the much-awaited National League Division Series.

A Stressful Pitching and Defense Duel

First blood came for the Brewers in the seventh inning when Sal Frelick and Jake Bauers hit consecutive single home runs off Mets starter Kodai Senga, putting Milwaukee ahead 2-0. Corbin Burnes, the Brewers’ starter, was brilliant on the mound, keeping the Mets’ bats quiet for the majority of the game.

Heroics from Alonso Spark the Mets

The Mets were behind late in the game, but they wouldn’t give up.  In the top of the ninth inning, facing Brewers’ closer Devin Williams, Pete Alonso walked to the bat with one out and provided a moment of brilliance.  With a three-run home run to left field, he gave New York a 3-2 lead and sent the traveling fans and Mets dugout reeling.

starring The Mets now lead 4-2 as Marte’s RBI single later in the inning provided more insurance.

Díaz Closes the Door

Senga was replaced in the seventh inning by Mets reliever Edwin Díaz, who put an end to any chances the Brewers had of mounting a comeback.  After pitching 1.2 innings and striking out three batters, Díaz put on a strong effort that guaranteed the Mets’ spot in the NLDS.

Resilience and Willpower

The Mets’ triumph demonstrated their tenacity and capacity to function well under duress.  After trailing for most of the game, they rallied in the late innings to take victory from the jaws of loss. This outstanding performance sets the stage for a thrilling matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies, their division rivals.
